To qualify for the position, a course called Basic Occupational Safety and Health Training (BOSH) must be completed. It aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills on identifying safety, health, and environmental hazards; determining appropriate control measures, and developing and implementing OSH policies and programs. Osha Safety Officer Training Course
The 40-hour course usually takes 5 days to complete (although there may be training organizations offering compressed schedules which take less days, or more relaxed schedules with more days, as long as the minimum requirement of 40 hours is met). As for training costs and fees, one may expect to pay about P5,500 at the minimum, exclusive of peripheral costs such as food and transportation. Participants will tackle a range of subject matter, including basic accident causation theories; hazards recognition, identification, assessment and control; industrial hygiene, use of Personal Protective Equipment; machine safety; electrical safety; fire safety; materials handling and storage; emergency preparedness; confined space and ladder safety; safety motivation and communication; accident investigation; job hazard analysis; OSH standards and regulatory requirements; the role of supervisors; adult learning; and management or control of contractors and subcontractors.
Aside from lectures and theory, Safety Officer training will also include exercise workshops on accidents, and actual site visit and inspection. Participants will get to compare their observations after the site visit. Occupational health and first aid will also be tackled in the course.
